The Syracuse Orange and the Carrier Dome play hot to upset minded the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are supposed to be one of the favorites in the CUSA and they are off to a solid star behind one of the top scoring offenses in the country that is averaging 77 points. The Bulldogs needed more then scoring however in a 94-86 defeat at Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday with the defense unable to get stops. The Bulldogs were outshot 52%-47.7% and outrebounded 42-26 to fall to 7-2. Erik McCree was the go to man at the offensive end with 25 points and six boards on 10-14 from the floor although Alex Hamilton was high scorer with 27 points on 9-17 accuracy. The tandem of Rakeem Appleby and Kenneth Smith combined for 21 points but the team received just eleven points outside of the starting five.
The Syracuse Orange are not accustomed to losing on a regular basis so a 5-3 record this early in the season is surprising. Even more surprising is the Orange have dropped consecutive contests following a 69-57 defeat to visiting St. John's. The Cuse defense held the Red Storm to a mere 37.7% from the field but Cuse could not take advantage with just 39% shooting. The deciding factor came at the charity stripe where St John's was 20-25 and the Orange were 10-20. Rakeem Christmas was a monster in the paint with a 15 point, 15 rebound performance on 5-8 while Michael Gbinjie and Chris McCullough posted 13 points each and 13 boards between them. The Orange went with a seven man rotation and all scored but the top three need more help then 16 points.
The Bulldogs are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 while going 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. Orange are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games and are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. Syracuse are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home. Syracuse hasn't been dominating and they are facing a strong La Tech squad but my gut is saying take the Orange...
