The Green Bay Phoenix improved to 7-2 on the season after defeating the Drake Bulldogs 64-48 this past Saturday. Green Bay had a great defensive effort on the night as they forced the Bulldogs to commit 19 turnovers in the game. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Keifer Sykes who had 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Keifer Sykes is the leader for Green Bay and was selected as the 2014-15 Pre-Season Horizon Conference Player of the Year. Green Bay suffered a tough 72-48 loss at the hands of Georgia State on December 4th, however, responding well to loss going on the road to defeat the 15th ranked Miami Hurricanes just two days later. On the season, the Phoenix have been led by Keifer Sykes (18.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.6 apg), Greg Mays (10.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg), and Jordan Fouse (6.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.4 apg). Green Bay is currently ranked 5th in the RPI standings and has the 5th ranked SOS. Offensively, Green Bay has been averaging 66.1 ppg (ranked 216th) on 45.4% shooting (101st). Defensively, the Phoenix are holding their opponents to 58.2 ppg (ranked 39th) on 38.9% shooting (ranked 68th). Green Bay has done a nice job protecting their basket as they are averaging 5.0 bpg (ranked 46th).
The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games however, just 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS win. The Phoenix are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 homes games vs. a team with a losing road record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.
Green Bay is a good team as their only two losses on the season came on the road against Wisconsin and a very good Georgia State team. Green Bay has one of the best point guards in the country, however, they loss a big part of last year’s team that just missed the NCAA tournament in Alec Brown. Morehead State has struggled on the road this season, but I liked how they continued to fight against a tough Ohio State team and I think that they can ride this momentum into their game against Green Bay. I’m going to take the Eagles and the points in this one.
