The Cal Poly Mustangs face a huge challenge in the form of the #8 Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday night.
The Cal Poly Mustangs surprised everyone last season as they won the Big West tournament and received an NCAA bid after struggling through a losing season. This year the Mustangs appear to have taken a step forward although it's tough to say where this conference stands until league action starts. CP improved to 5-4 with a 60-58 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday. The Huskies jumped to a 14 point lead at the break before completely falling apart in the second half. The decisive stat was the difference in shooting with Cal Poly leading in that category 47%-42%. Brian Bennett paced the Mustangs scoring with 19 points and nine boards with David Nwaba tossing in 17 followed by Kyle Toth with eleven points.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs look like the clear cut favorite in the West Coast as they are 10-1 and ranked number eight with the lone loss coming at the hands of Arizona in overtime. The Zags have responded from the loss to the Wildcats with three consecutive routs after demolishing Texas Southern 94-54 on Monday. The Bulldogs jumped to a 24 point lead heading to the looker room and never let up. The Tigers were limited to less then 36% shooting while the Zags seldom missed with over 63% accuracy with ten makes from longh range. Kyle Wiltjer paced four double digit scorers with a game high 21 points on 9-11 shooting with Domantas Sabonis tossing in 16 points and snagging six boards. Silas Melson and Kevin Pangos added 13 and eleven points with Pangos posting six assists.
