The #22 Michigan State Spartans hope to move up the national rankings with a win over te Texas Southern Tigers.
The Texas Southern Tigers haven't been able to get their scoring and defensive struggles straightened out and the result is a 1-8 record with the team being outscored 77-59. These struggles continued in a 94-54 loss at Gonzaga on Monday. This was essentially over at the half with the Bulldogs up 40-16 with the Bulldogs sinking shots at over 64% including a 10-19 mark from beyond the arc. The Tigers countered with 35.6% from the field and a 3-17 performance on threes and neither was enough to be competitive. The Michigan State Spartans and a top 25 ranking seem to be an automatic pairing each and every year and this season isn't any different. After suffering back to back defeats to Kansas and Notre Dame, MSU has won three in a row by DD following a 66-46 rout of instate foe Eastern Michigan 66-46 on Wednesday. Hard nose defense and rebounding was a good combination with the Eagles sinking shots at 22% and losing the battle on the backboards 44-31 which offset MSU's 38 % shooting. Four Spartans reached double figures in scoring with Bryn Forbes leading the way with 14 points followed by a 13 point, six assist effort by Travis Trice. Matt Costello and Marvin Clark Jr. combined for 21 points and 15 rebounds to provide plenty of inside muscle.
The Tigers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. loss while going 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Spartans are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games. Michigan State are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games. I like Michigan State if they go hard for 40 minutes but my number has this around 25 points so going with potential here...
