The Michigan Wolverines and Southern Methodist Mustangs tangle at Crisler Arena in early Saturday action.
The Southern Methdist Mustangs are out to build some momentum heading in to the AAC slate and some national attention along the way. The Mustangs have won five in a row following a 67-46 rout of visiting Illinois-Chicago with their defense setting the tone with a 29-15 lead after 20 minutes. That was essentially the game with the Flames held to 26.6% from the floor with SMU countering with a blistering 53.7% and a 20-9 margin at the foul line. The tandem of Nic Moore and Keith Frazier were too much for the UIC defense with both scoring 16 points and Frazier hauling in ten rebounds. Yanick Moreira added eleven points and eight boards while Justin Martin tossed in nine points and snagged another six pulls as SMU piled up a +18 on the glass.

The Michigan Wolverines might be 6-4 which would be the envy of many teams but not for them with unexpected losses to New Jersey Tech. Losing to this pair and then Arizona has the Wolverines staring at three consecutive defeats. The Wildcats opened up an eleven point lead heading in to the locker room before pulling away in the final 20 minutes. Chalk this up to the better shooting club with Zona leading 58%-35% which equaled 13 more field goals. Zak Irvin was the Wolverines only double digit scorer with 14 points on 6-13 from the field. Caris LeVert, Kameron Chatman and Ricky Doyle each added eight points but Michigan never found the scoring touch and struggled on the backboards as well with Arizona holding a 38-22 edge in that category.
The Mustangs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games. Southern Methodist are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Wolverines are 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games following a S.U. loss and 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 games following a ATS loss. Michigan are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. I think Michigan is better then they have shown and will crush somebody soon. Southern Methodist might be the team but I'll still take the points...
