The Eastern Michigan Eagles pay a visit to the Missouri State Bears at JQH Arena in Saturday action.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles have jumped out of the gates to an 8-2 record with their claim to fame being their win at Michigan as a 14 point underdog. The Eagles have shown scoring potential and are allowing 57 points so my belief is EMU will rely heavily on defense in 2014-15. A week after surprising the Wolverines the Eagles came back to earth with a thud in a 66-46 rout at the hands of Michigan State Wednesday. The defense did their job with the Spartans held to less then 37% from the floor but Eastern Michigan still couldn't keep up with only 30% marksmanship to lean on. Offensive options were few with Raven Lee the only player to crack the ten point barrier with 12 on 3-12 shooting. Four others contributed between 6-7 points with just one player hittting at better then 50%.

The Missouri State Bears have posted middle of the row numbers at both ends of the floor and likely need a boost in both if they expect to do some damage in the MVC. At 5-5 it's difficult to pin this team down as we've seen potential at both ends of the floor but until we see them in conference action I don't think the Bears know what's going on. What I do know is the team has dropped back to back games after a 74-70 loss at Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane shot the ball much better at 53.8%-44% but Missouri State sank a few more threes to stay close. The Bears offense was a one man show with Marcus Marshall going off for 36 points with seven threes with Gavin Thompson and Dorrian Williams adding a combined 19 points with Williams posting six boards.
The Eagles are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. loss and 23-10-1 ATS in their last 34 games following a ATS loss. Eastern Michigan are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. Missouri Valley. The Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Mid-American and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games following three or more consecutive road games. Missouri State are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games following a ATS win and 7-23 ATS in their last 30 non-conference games. The trends are mixed but I think Eastern Michigan is playing well and get my vote even though Missouri State makes me wary...
