The Illinois State Redbirds hope to continue their strong start with a visit to the CFSB Center to face the Murray State Racers.
The Illinois State Redbirds are off to a great start to the season leaving many to ask if this is the year this team makes a little noise in the Missouri Valley. The Redbirds have scoring and defensive potential and if both are on the same page the answer to the above question is yes. ISU turned to their defense in a 64-54 win over Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday as they held the Skyhawks to 18 first half points in taking a ten point lead. Both teams hit at 40% from the floor with the Redbirds owning a 14-7 advantage at the foul line. Leading scorer Daishon Knight tossed in a game high 18 points and grabbed five boards and gave out five helpers. Reggie Lynch followed with 12 points and eight rebounds while Justin McCloud tossed in eleven.

Although it's been a few years since the Murray State Racers were chasing perfection and crashing the national scene, this team has rebuilt on the fly and remained relevant. The surging Racers seem to be in mid season form with five straight victories under their belt after demolishing visiting Alcorn State by a 94-56 count. The Braves were limited to 37.5% from the floor while the Racers seldom missed at 64.6% including an impressive 13-22 from long range to win going away. Points came easily and from everywhere with Jarvis Williams and TJ Sapp leading the offensive explosion with 22 and 21 points respectively. Cameron Payne added 14 points and nine helpers followed by a ten point, six pull effort from Jeffery Moss. Altogether eleven players saw the floor and ten found the scoring column.
The Redbirds are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. Illinois State are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Ohio Valley and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. The Racers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Missouri Valley and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. Murray State are 12-4-2 ATS in their last 18 home games and are 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 games following a S.U. win. I think Murray State is the better team but the better team can win and not cover...
