The #11 Wichita State Shockers take the hardwood with the Loyola Marymount Lions in late Monday action.
I have to say I'm not sure where the Loyola Marymount Lions fit in the West Coast but I do know that in order to be competitive with the top teams the Lions will need more scoring and defense. LMU has struggled at both ends of the floor in dropping four straight following a 67-58 loss to Stanford. The Lions saw a four point lead dry up in a 40-27 Cardinal run over the final 20 minutes. Stanford shot the ball at a 41.5% pace and held a 17-4 edge at the charity stripe while the Lions 47% marksmanship was negated with 16 giveaways. Loyola Marymount received 14 points from Evan Payne with Matt Hayes scoring nine while the trio of Marin Mornar, Patson Siame and Simon Krajcovic netted eight points apiece.

The Wichita State Shockers are ranked as is usual but after watching this team build an 8-1 record I can say this isn't as dominant a team as we've come to expect from the Shockers. Not as dominant and 8-1 and riding a four game winning streak...the sky is falling withe lone loss coming at Utah by a single point in overtime. WSU escaped with a 53-52 victory over Alabama last time out as a 13 point home favorite. The Crimson Tide the ball much better at 46.5%-40.8% with the Shockers totaling six more shots and one more free throw. Wichita State was carried by Darius Carter with a game high 16 points and six boards on 6-11 from the field. Ron Baker and Fred VanFleet followed with 14 and nine points and a combined 12 rebounds with VanFleet posting five helpers.
The Lions are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and Lions are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games following a S.U. loss. Loyola Marymount are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall and are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 Monday games. The Shockers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 neutral site games. Wichita State are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 37-13-2 ATS in their last 52 games following a S.U. win. The Shockers are not covering the big numbers which are inflated a bit because of last season. Based on potential I'll side with them here...
