The Syracuse Orange and the Colgate Raiders face off on Monday at the Carrier Dome in college basketball action.
The Syracuse Orange are 6-4 this season but they have lost three of their last four games. Syracuse is averaging 69.1 points and they are shooting 44.5 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 59.8 points and their opponents are shooting 36.8 percent. Rakeem Christmas leads the Orange averaging 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds. Chris McCullough is averaging 12.3 points and 8.2 rebounds, Trevor Cooney is averaging 12.1 points, and Kaleb Joseph is averaging 8.2 points and 5.4 assists. The Colgate Raiders are 3-8 this season losing six of their last eight games. Colgate is averaging 61.3 points and they are shooting 44.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.1 points and their opponents are shooting 43.9 percent. Damon Sherman-Newsome is averaging 15.2 points to lead the Raiders. Austin Tillotson is averaging 12.6 points, Ethan Jacobs is averaging 10 points, and Matt McMullen is averaging 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds. Colgate just doesn’t have the guns to compete with the bigger teams on either end of the court.
Syracuse is 2-8 against the spread in heir last 10 home games, 1=4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 0-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. Colgate is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight road games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 6-1 against the spread following a loss.
Syracuse hasn’t had a lot to cheer about this year so maybe running it up against a patsy will make their fan base think they have a prayer of being competitive in the ACC this year.
