The Western Illinois Leathernecks head to FedEx Forum looking for the upset of the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday.
The Western Illinois Leathernecks are not expected to make a run at the Summit League crown and for most of their non conference slate not much positive led us to believe otherwise. However the Leathernecks have won back to back contests to improve to 4-5 after a 78-68 victory over visiting Alabama State behind a 45-31 first half run. The Hornets hit at a 42.6% clip and gave the ball away 16 times while with WIU sank shots at 45% with five more threes and five more free throws carrying the day. Garret Covington led the offense with 18 points with JC Fuller and Mohamed Conde tossing in 15 and 14 points. Jabari Sandifer and Mike Miklusak combined for 20 points and 17 rebounds as seven players scored overall.

The Memphis Tigers were one of the top clubs in the AAC a season ago but because of the graduating talent they weren't considered to be a threat in 2014-15. However the Tigers have played well as of late and have won three in a row and four of five after knocking off Oral Roberts 78-63 on Saturday. The Tigers defense controlled the Golden Eagles attack with less then 34% shooting allowed while connecting at 42.6% and dominating the backboards 44-28. Austin Nichols led three three other double digit scorers with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight blocked shots. RaShawn Powell followed with a 14 point, six pull and seven assist effort while Trashon Burrell and Avery Woodson netted 12 and ten points with Powell also grabbing seven boards.
The Leathernecks are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Western Illinois are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 3-14 ATS in their last 17 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Tigers are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. win and are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win. I think Memphis is better then the experts believe and they do make it tough for the rest of the AAC and they make it very tough for Western Illinois...
