The 7th ranked Texas Longhorns improved to 10-1 on the season after a 78-68 victory over the Long Beach State 49ers this past Saturday. The Longhorns out-rebounded the 49ers by a 40-28 margin and shot 52.8% (ranked 28-53) from the field. Leading the way for the Longhorns was Javan Felix who had 17 points (3-5 3PM-A), 4 rebounds and 3 assists off the bench. The Longhorns have been without their star point guard Isaiah Taylor since he broke his wrist in late November against Iowa, however have done a nice job in his absence with their only loss coming to the # 1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats. On the season, Texas have been led by Jonathan Holmes (12.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.8 apg), Myles Turner (11.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.9 bpg), and Connor Lammert (6.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg). The Longhorns are ranked 10th in the RPI standings and have played the 56th ranked SOS. Texas is a very strong defensive team as they are currently holding their opponents to just 53.4 ppg (ranked 6th) on 31.4% shooting (ranked 3rd). The Longhorns do a great job on the glass as they pull down 31.55 defensive rebounds per game (ranked 1st) and 45.09 total rebounds per game (ranked 3rd). Offensively, Texas is averaging 72.9 ppg (ranked 85th) on 46.2% shooting (ranked 83rd).
The Cardinals are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win. The Longhorns are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games.
Stanford has some great players in in Chasson Randle and Stefan Nastic however, have struggled both on the road and against quality teams so far this season. Texas will still be without Isaiah Taylor however, I think that their defensive will cause the Cardinals all sorts of trouble on the offensive end. I see the Longhorns pulling away in the second half and covering this spread. Let’s go with Texas to cover in this one.
