Monmouth vs. Rutgers - 12/28/14 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Monmouth Hawks have won three of their last five games and hope to build some consistency. On the season, Monmouth is averaging 63.7 points on 44.8 percent shooting and is allowing 64.6 points on 40.5 percent shooting. Deon Jones is averaging 12.7 points and 4.8 rebounds while Justin Robinson is averaging 10.6 points and 3.4 assists. Brice Kofane is grabbing 6.1 rebounds and Andrew Nicholas is shooting 38.2 percent from the field. The Monmouth Hawks also rely on their defense that’s forcing more than 14 turnovers per game and holding teams to 35.4 percent shooting from deep. Monmouth has allowed 68 or less points in eight of its first 11 games this season. Offensively, Monmouth is shooting 71.7 percent from the line and 34.1 percent from downtown.

The Scarlet Knights are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Sunday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. The Hawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Most of Rutgers losses are respectable and the Scarlet Knights already have a tough road win in Clemson. I'm not sold on Monmouth and how it can hang with a team with better athletes. I'm taking Rutgers and the free bucket.
