The Sacramento State Hornets open up Big Sky play at The Nest with the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.
I don't think we'll really know much about most teams in the Big Sky until the conference season is well underway and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks are one of those mystery teams. Job number one is to kick off conference action with a few wins and reach .500 and the Lumberjacks are hoping to build off of a 71-45 victory versus sub division San Diego Christian on Sunday. NAU led 42-13 at the half with a 47%-31% shooting edge putting this in the win column. Ako Kaluna led the Lumberjacks offense with 15 points followed by Gaellan Bewernick with 13 points and six pulls. Kris Yanku and Quinton Upshur combined for 21 points with nine and five rebounds respectively.
USA TODAY Sports
The Sacramento State Hornets are one of three squads in the Big Sky that have winnining records as conference action is set to begin. The Hornets avoided a three game slide with a one sided 74-49 rout at Utah Valley on Saturday as they broke open a tight game with a 36-17 second half run. The Hornets dominated at both ends of the floor with the Wolverines held to under 33% while the visitors burned the nets at almost 56% including a 10-17 mark from long range. Utah Valley had no answer for Dylan Garrity who poured in a game high 28 points on 6-7 accuracy on threes. Mikh McKinney followed with a 13 point, six pull and eight assist performance while Cody Demps and Dreon Barlettt netted eight points apiece.
The Lumberjacks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big Sky and are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. Northern Arizona are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game. The Hornets are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Sacramento State are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 home games and 4-1-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points. I am seeing some possible injuries for NAU so a line has not been released so please check back...
