The Appalachian State Mountaineers open up the Sun Belt schedule with a trip to the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
At 3-6 the Appalachian State Mountaineers still have plenty of time to turn things around and if they do so it has to start with reversing the offensive and defensive numbers where they are currently being outscored 69-62. The Mountaineers are currently in the midst of a four game slide after an unexpected 60-59 loss at Alabama a an 18 point underdog. This game was nip and tuck all the way with both teams sinking shots in the 41% range with the only real advantage coming at the foul line where the Crimson Tide held a 10-4 lead. Tommy Spagnolo paced the offense with 18 points and ten rebounds with the tandem of Frank Eaves and Dustin Clarke netting 13 points apiece with Clarke snagging eight boards.

Where the Arkansas State Red Wolves fit in the heiarchy of the Sun Belt might fall under the category TBD but the team is playing well right now with four consecutive victories including a 1-0 start to conference play following a 63-60, overtime decision at South Alabama on Tuesday. The Jaguars owned a slight 39%-36% shooting advantage which equated to a few extra field goals but a 12-6 edge at the charity stripe in favor of the Red Wolves was decisive. Anthony Livingston led a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points and 13 rebounds on 6-16 shooting while the twosome of Nouhoum Bocoum and Cameron Golden scored 14 points each and posted six boards apiece. Sean Gardner and PJ Hardwick combined for 17 points as the starters scored all but two points altogether.
The Mountaineers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. Appalachian State are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Red Wolves are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games. Arkansas State are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. These teams have never played so not much to go on but I like how the Mountaineers have played versus superior competition lately...
