The UTEP Miners are 9-4 this season and they are coming off of a 14-point win over North Texas in their Conference USA opener. Texas-El Paso is averaging 71.5 points and they are shooting 47.4 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 64.5 points and their opponents are shooting 43.1 percent. Vince Hunter is averaging 16.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game to lead the Miners. Cedrick Lang is averaging 10.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, Julian Washburn is averaging 9.7 points, and Earvin Morris Jr. is averaging 8.7 points. UTEP has won five of their last six games.
Rice is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 7-1 against the spread in their last eight Sunday games. UTEP is 12-3 in their last 15 road games against a team with a winning home record, 19-7-1 against the spread in their last 27 road games, and 18-8-1 against the spread against Conference USA. The underdog has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
I am going to go with UTEP in this one even though Rice has been given good numbers recently by the books.
