The Samford Bulldogs look for a conference win when the East Tennessee State Buccaneers Monday.
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers bring plenty of excitrment to the SoCon with their high scoring offense but their defense also allows a lot of points so the scoreboard operator is always busy. The scoreboard operator was plenty busy Saturday as the Buccaneers opened the conference slate with a 98-88 victory versus visiting VMI. The Keydets didn't shoot the ball well at 35.5% but made up for it with 13 more shots but the Buccaneers 49% from the field and 32-24 edge at the line carried the day. Jalen Riley was the Buccaneers offensive star with a game high 32 points and five steals on 11-17 with AJ Merriweather adding 17 points and ten rebounds. Rashawn Rembert followed with 12 points with Lester Wilson and Desonta Bradford combining for 21 points.

The Samford Bulldogs have been something of an afterthought in the SoCon over the years but despite their 7-9 record to kick off the 2014-15 season and seem to have taken a step forward. The Bulldogs had won five in a row before conference favorite Wofford pulled out a 68-65 victory on Saturday. The Terriers held a 46.7%-41.5% shooting edge with five more free throws being key for the visitors. Christen Cunningham paced the Samford offense with 20 points on 6-12 shooting and a team high five turnovers. Darius Jones-Gibson followed with 15 points on 5-10 marksmanship while Michael Bradley and Marcus Johnson contributed ten and eight points respectively. Eight players scored overall but a 6-16 effort on threes hurt them.
The Buccaneers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. Southern and Buccaneers are 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. ETSU are 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. Samford are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. I think Samford is playing the best they possibly can and if they can keep it going against East Tennessee State they can cover and if not this could be a blowout...
