The Monmouth Hawks play host to the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Friday night MAAC ation.
So far the MAAC has been their typical unpredictable selves with anything possible but I am having trouble figuring out the Quinnipiac Bobcats who seem to have taken a step back from last season. Granted the team lost some talent although they are still monsters on the glass as the top rebounding squad in the nation. The Bobcats fell to 0-3 in the MAAC after an 81-73 loss at Iona on Saturday with 35.5% shooting squandering an extra 20 attempts while the Gaels hit at 48% with a 12-23 performance from long range. Zaid Hearst paced a trio of double digit scorers with 27 points and seven board on 10-19 while Ayron Hutton added 16 points and eight assists. James Ford Jr. chipped in with ten but nobody else scored more then six points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Monmouth Hawks have outscored opponents 64-63 so they obviously must avoid shootouts to have a reasonable shot at winning. The Hawks have generally controlled the scoreboard despite their 7-7 record and have been outstanding in conference play thus far at 4-0 after a 66-50 rout of Niagara on the road Sunday. The Hawks dominated both ends of the floor with 48% marksmanship while the Purple Eagles were limited to only 27.8% which was a difference of eight field goals. Monmouth received 14 points and six boards from Justin Robinson with Collin Stewart tossing in 12 points while the tandem Max DiLeo and Deon Jones scored eight points aoiece with Jones snaring eight rebounds.
The Bobcats are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win. Quinnipiac are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. The Hawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Monmouth are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. Quinnipiac has owned this series but Monmouth is the better team right now so we'll see if that matters or if the Bobcats just have their number...
