The Belmont Bruins look to slow down the Eastern Illinois Panthers at Lantz Arena in Ohio Valley action.
The Belmont Bruins began the season a little slower then anticipated but at the end of the day their 10-5 record is not too shabby. The Bruins can score at 73 points which never seems to be a problem but 70 points allowed makes things interesting. The Bruins have started the conference schedule well with consecutive victories after they edged out visiting SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday. Belmont was clearly the better shooting team at 49%-39% but the Cougars managed 13 more shots to remain competitive. Craig Bradshaw pumped in a contest high 26 points and handed out six assists while Evan Bradds tossed in 19 points and hauled in eleven rebounds. Three others combined for 7-8 points with the starters scoring all but ten points.

The Eastern Illinois Panthers do not have the reputation of winning and making noise in the Ohio Valley but they are out to change that as they are red hot with six consecutive victories. The slow footed Panthers average just 60 points and allow 59 so they seldon run the floor and light up the scoreboard. EIU has jumped to a 3-0 record in the OVC following a 64-57 victory at Tennessee State as a six point favorite on Wednesday. A 41-29 run over the final 20 minutes erased a five point first half hole. Both teams sank shots at around 40% but the Panthers held a 13-8 edge at the stripe to squeeze out the win. Chris Olivier paced the Panthers with a 14 point effort followed by Cornell Johnston with 12 points and six helpers. Josh Piper and Reggie Smith added eleven and nine points with Piper hauling in ten rebounds.
The Bruins are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Belmont are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss. The Panthers are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. Eastern Illinois are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 6-20-1 ATS in their last 27 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. I don't know if EIU is just a flash in the pan and if they are Belmont will expose them but for now I'll back the home dog...
