The Southern Illinois Salukis look to slow down the Indiana State Sycamores at SIU Arena Saturday.
The Indiana State Sycamores had some high hopes entering 2014-15 but they were not very impressive during their non conference schedule. The Sycamores have been outscored 70-68 and looked lifeless at times at both ends of the floor but things have suddenly turned for the better once the Missouri Valley schedule began. ISU have kicked off the league slate at 3-0 after knocking off visiting Missouri State 71-56 on Wednesday. The Sycamores took control with an eleven point lead at the break and generally dominated both ends of the floor. The Bears were stiffled on 37.5% from the floor while Indiana State was burning the nets at 56% behind three DD scorers. Justin Gant exploded for a game high 24 points and six yanks with Devonte Brown adding 16 points and five dishes. Brenton Scott followed with ten points and Jake Kitchell netted eight.

If you follow the Southern Illinois Salukis you know their world is slow and slower as they have to keep the pace as slow as possible and avoid track meets. The Salukis muster just 60 points and allow the same so we have the very definition of a halfcourt squad. Unfortunately this style hasn't worked out with the team staring at a 7-9 record and a five game losing streak after a 55-39 defeat at Northern Iowa on Wednesday. UNI led 25-17 after 20 minutes an the Salukis couldn't close the gap on 29.5% shooting. On the flip side the Panthers slowly pulled away on nearly 45% marksmanship. Jordan Caroline led the Southern Illinois attack with 13 points and eight rebounds with Bola Olaniyan and Sean O'Brien netting ten points apiece with O'Brien snaring five boards.
The Sycamores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Indiana State are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The Salukis are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Southern Illinois are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Missouri Valley. SIU has done well in this match up but are ice cold and the Sycamores are playing well so we'll see if that matters...
