The Iona Gaels look to put on a show for the Hynes Athletic Center when the Fairfield Stags visit Tuesday.
The Iona Gaels trying to take control of the MAAC in the early going and it's been mission accomplished so far with their high powered offense leading the way to a 4-1 start to the conference schedule after outscoring visiting Canisius 79-76 on Saturday as a ten point favorite. The Golden Griffins shot the ball well at almost 51% but the Gaels stayed close on 44% and won with a 15-5 advantage at the charity stripe. Ryden Hines gave the Golden Griffins fits with a game high 26 points with six boards and five helpers on 9-13 from the floor in 40 minutes. David Laury was a handful as well with 24 points and ten rebounds on 10-17 accuracy while AJ English chipped in with eight points, five boards and eight assists.

I always say the MAAC is extremely difficult to predict and Fairfield's 79-67 victory at Siena Sunday as a seven point underdog was a bit surprising. The Stags improved to 5-10 with three wins coming in conference play. The Stags seldom score more then 65 points so this was an offensive explosion with the Saints defense allowing 55% marksmanship including 9-18 from long range while Siena connected at 48% which was well short of what was needed. Leading scorer Marcus Gilbert was at his best with a game high 23 points and eight rebounds on 7-11 shooting in 40 minutes. Tyler Nelson and Mike Kirkland Jr. netted 14 and 13 points respectively while Amadou Sadibe chipped in with eight points. The starting five accounted for all but 16 points.
The Stags are 10-2-1 ATS in their last 13 road games and 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Fairfield are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Gaels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 16-38-3 ATS in their last 57 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Iona are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Big spread as expected and Iona has the offense to cover but taking a shot with the points and hope even Fairfield can stay within reason...
