The Niagara Purple Eagles take a break from conference play when the Penn Quakers come to the Gallagher Center.
The Penn Quakers have been struggling for several years and the question right now is whether the team has some improvement in them in 2014-15. I think they might be a bit better but then again at 3-8 that might be splitting hairs. The Quakers are being outscored 70-66 and the defense let them down once again in a 78-74 loss at Princeton on Saturday for defeat number three in a row. It was an exciting but not pretty contest with both teams combining for 33 turnovers. The Quakers held a 51%-48% shooting edge with 17 more shots and ten more buckets but the Tigers won it with a 32-9 margin at the stripe. Darrien Nelson-Henry and Dylan Jones scored 18 points apiece while Matt Howard and Antonio Woods combined for 21 points.

The Niagara Purple Eagles will be fighting to avoid the MAAC basement because they can't get enough scoring punch and the defense can't get enough stops as they have been outscored 71-62. The Purple Eagles did give Manhattan a battle before ultimately dropping an 84-75 decision Saturday for loss number three in a row. Niagara scorched the nets at 55.6% but gave the ball away 22 times to give the 47% shooting Jaspers ten more looks at the basket. Throw in a 27-19 advantage at the foul line and Manhattan avoid getting swept by Niagara. Wesley Myers gave the Purple Eagles 22 points on 10-14 shooting with Ramone Snowden next in line with 16 points. Rayvonn Harris turned in a 13 point, seven rebound effort followed by Karonn Davis and Dominique Reid with eight points each.
The Quakers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Penn are 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. The Purple Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games. Niagara are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 3-14-1 ATS in their last 18 Tuesday games. My spider senses are tingling and saying to stay far away from this one...
