The North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks look for the road upset of the William & Mary Tribe.
The North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks might be only 8-7 overall but they are off to a surprising 3-1 start to the CAA slate where they were supposed to be a non factor. The Seahawks shot well and played better then average defense in a 64-57 victory over visiting Drexel who got the halfcourt game they needed but not the results. UNCW limited the Dragons to 42% shooting and connected at 52% to help negate 16 giveaways. The Seahawks received 19 points from Freddie Jackson followed by a 12 point, ten rebound effort from Addison Spruill. Jordan Talley added eight points and five assists while the entire nine man rotation managed to find the scoring column.
I like to think of the William & Mary Tribe as one of the more complete teams in the Colonial because they are solid at both ends of the floor. The defense struggled a bit in Saturday's 81-73 victory versus James Madison but the scoring picked up the slack. The Dukes held a 48%-45% advantage in the shooting department but the Tribe sank three more bombs and seven more free throws to walk away with the victory. Marcus Thornton was the offensive star of the game with 27 points, seven boards and five helpers on 7-11 accuracy from distance. Terry Tarpey followed with 18 points and hauled in a game high eleven rebounds with ten dishes while Sean Sheldon and Omar Prewitt netted eight points each with Prewitt snaring seven pulls.
The Seahawks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games. The Tribe are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. William & Mary are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win. North Carolina-Wilmington looks like a dangerous dog but I'm waiting for a big conference win and right now I'm looking that way...
