USA TODAY Sports
The Loyola Marymount Lions lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 4-13 (0-5 -WCC) after losing to the BYU Cougars 85-72 this past Saturday. The Lions allowed the Cougars to shoot 50.9% from the field and 44.8% (13-29) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for Loyola Marymount was Marin Mornar who had 16 points and 8 rebounds. The Lions are currently ranked 268th in the RPI Standings and have played the 89th ranked SOS. On the season, Loyola Marymount has been led by Evan Payne (20.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg), and Ayodeji Egbeyemi (8.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg). Offensively, the Lions are averaging 62.8 ppg (ranked 282nd) on 43.6% shooting (ranked 174th). Loyola Marymount is currently shooting 72.5% from the free-throw line (ranked 59th). Defensively, the Lions are allowing their opponent to average 69.9 ppg (ranked 265th) on 44.6% shooting (ranked 271st). Loyola Marymount allows their opponents to shot 38.0% from beyond the arc (ranked 315th). The Lions have a -3.6 turnover ratio (ranked 331st). Loyola Marymount’s leading scorer Evan Payne is currently questionable due to disciplinary reasons.
The Pilots are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Lions are 20-42 ATS in their last 62 home games and 11-24 ATS in their last 35 games overall.
Both of these teams were missing key contributors in their recent losses. Portland has been shorthanded and only played 9 players in their recent loss against the Dons. Loyola Marymount was without their leading scorer but actually put a spirited effort at BYU in which they used a well-balanced offensive attack in which 5 members scored in double-figures. Currently, there is no line set for this game as we’re not sure of the status of Portland’s Pressley and Loyola MaryMount’s Evan Payne. If both players are out, I’m leaning towards taking Loyola Marymount but please check back later when the line is posted.
Update 1/15/15 (7:15pm) - It looks as if Evan Payne is a go tonight for Loyola Marymount and Bryce Pressley is still questionable for Portland. As of right now the line is Portland at -4.5. As Pressley is still in doubt, I'm going to lean on Loyola Marymount in this one as I think they could even pull the upset at home against the Pilots. Take Loyola Marymount and the points.
