The Fairfield Stags play host to the Marist Red Foxes at the Webster Bank Arena on Friday night.
Some early season injuries hurt the Marist Red Foxes but with most of the lineup intact I think we know the team simply needs more scoring options and a better defense. The Red Foxes have dropped eleven in a row after a 66-54 defeat at Quinnipiac Sunday as a 13 point underdog. Marist fell behind by 16 after 20 minutes which ended this game from a competitive standpoint. The Bobcats held a 42%-36.5% shooting advantage with a 15-6 edge at the stripe being crucial. Leading scorer Chavaughn Lewis poured in a game high 18 points with five pulls while Phillip Lawrence adding eleven points followed by six point efforts from Eric Truog and Manny Thomas.

I can say from experience that putting too much faith in the Fairfield Stags is not a good thing and ignoring them is just as bad. The Stags have been slumping with defeats in six of seven following a 74-58 loss at Iona on Sunday. FF actually led by one at the break before the Gaels exploded for a 38-21 second half run to win going away. Fairfield struggled to stop the Gaels attack which burned the nets at 56.5% including a 12-19 effort from beyond the arc while countering with 42.6% and only 6-21 on threes. Mike Kirkland Jr. was the Stags best offensive weapon with 18 points and eight rebounds on 6-8 shooting while Tyler Nelson tossed in 15 points. Jerome Segura and Marcus Gilbert combined for 17 points but FF needed far more scoring punch.
The Red Foxes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall. Marist are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games following a S.U. loss and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Stags are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 9-1-2 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Fairfield are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. The numbers point to Fairfield so you have to decide if you can stand laying chalk with these guys...
