The Georgia State Panthers look to flex some muscle on the road when they face the Appalachian State Mountaineers.
The Georgia State Panthers were the 900 pound gorilla in the Sun Belt a season ago and were expected to be much the same in 2014-15. School is still out on whether the Panthers are still the top dog in the conference but they certainly looked like it in Thursday's 83-62 rout of Texas-Arlington at home. GSU was locked in a tight battle with a four point lead heading to the second where a 47 point explosion buried the Mavericks. UTA was limited to 40% shooting while the Panthers hit at 50% and had eight more attempts which equaled nine more field goals. Ryan Harrow led the scoring spree with 27 points on 10-17 shooting with Kevin Ware and Marcus Crider combing for 21 points with Crider posting five helpers. The bench provided 23 points with subs seeing the floor with the game out of reach.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers first season i the Sun Belt after leaving the SoCon has not gone as desired at 4-10. The Mountaineers have struggled to score and defend which is a recipe' for disaster especially in a top heavy conference. After beating Arkansas State in the league opener ASU has dropped four in a row withe visiting Red Wolves exacting some revenge in a 59-50 victory on Thursday. Neither team was a threat offensively with Arkansas State holding a 36%-29% shooting edge but that was the difference with several more baskets. Frank Eaves paced the Mountaineers with 13 points on 4-12 from the floor followed by Tommy Spagnolo with a ten point, 12 rebound performance. Jake Babic scored eight points with eight others adding between 2-3 points.
The Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. Georgia State are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Sun Belt. The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. Appalachian State are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games. Georgia State does not cover on the road but they are the far superior team and I'd be disappointed if they don't show up here...
