The Marist Red Foxes look to get their first MAAC win when the Fairfield Stags come to the McCann Field House Sunday.
Although the Fairfield Stags are just 6-13 on the year they have been a bit more competitive in conference play with a 4-5 mark which keeps the team in the running for a spot in the top four. The Stags look to get some momentum and avoid a three game skid after falling to Canisius 64-50 as the offense completely stalled. The Golden Griffins were up seven after 20 minutes and stretched their lead behind 48% shooting including a 7-15 effort on threes. FF mustered 36% from the floor and were 3-14 from distance in a quiet night offensively. Leading scorer Marcus Gilbert was the only player to crack double figures in scoring with 18 points and six pulls on 6-10 from the field. The tandem of Mike Kirkland Jr. and Tyler Nelson added eight points apiece but the rest of the team checked in with 16 points.

If you follow the Marist Red Foxes it's no secret this team's 1-18 record is because their scoring and defense are seldom on the same page and even when one unit performs well the other generally struggles. The numbers tell the story as the Red Foxes are being outscored 69-58 and the needs are obvious. It appeared Marist had a chance at the road upset of Siena Friday with a tie game at the half but the Saints road a strong offensive effort over the final 20 minutes to pull out a 69-60 victory. The Saints simply outshot the visitors 46%-34% and dominated the foul line 20-10. Chavaughn Lewis led all scorers with 19 points and added eight rebounds and five steals but was just 7-21 from the floor. TJ Curry and Khallid Hart followed with 14 points and eleven points respectively but not enough help came from the remainder of the team.
The Stags are 8-1-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home. Fairfield are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 10-3-2 ATS in their last 15 road games. The Red Foxes are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games following a S.U. loss and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Marist are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Essentially the spread says pick the winner ad I could say just take the better team in Fairfield or go out on the limb and say Marist wins their first in the MAAC. I'm laughing as I type this...
