The Santa Barbara Gauchos look to take down Big West co-leader the UC Davis Aggies in Thursday action.
The Santa Barbara Gauchos have been a strong team in the Big West and have their sights set on more then just a top four finish with scoring and defense that is capable of winning the conference. The Gauchos took a step towards that goal with a 68-49 win over Cal State Fullerton Saturday as they exploded for a 37-13 second half to overcome a five point hole. It was a complete effort with the Titans held to 30.5% shooting while UCSB hit at 45% with a 15-6 advantage at the stripe. Michael Bryson led all scorers with 23 points and eight boards on 8-16 from the field followed by a 15 point, ten rebound performance from John Green. Eric Childress chipped in with ten points and five yanks with Mitch Brewe scoring seven.

The UC Davis Aggies can score and defend as well as any team in the Big West which is why they share the conference lead with a 4-1 mark. The Aggies saw a four game winning streak and a chance to take sole possession of first go by the wayside in an 84-76 defeat at Hawaii. UH were up eleven at the half and the Aggies couldn't sustain any kind of rally with 24 turnovers giving the 50.8% shooting Warriors 15 more looks at the basket. UCD connected at a hefty 52% and sank seven more foul shots but were done in by miscues. Corey Hawkins was the Aggies lone double digit scorer with 19 points on 5-8 from distance but the scoring was very balanced otherwise. Tyler Les, Josh Ritchart, Avery Johnson and JT Adenrele each tossed in nine points while Neal Monson and Josh Fox combined for 15 points.
The Gauchos are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Santa Barbara are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win. The Aggies are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games. UC Davis are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Gauchos have enjoyed tremendous success against UC Davis and this looks like a toss up to me so I'm bucking the trends...
