The Akron Zips welcome the Kent State Golden Flashes to the James A. Rhodes Arena for the lead in the MAC East.
The Kent State Golden Flashes were sole owners of first in the Mac East a week ago before suffering back to back defeats. The Golden Flashes bounced back to defeat Miami (Ohio) 61-60 Saturday to maintain a share of first. Both teams sank shots in the 45%-46% range with a 7-1 edge from long range by Kent overcoming six more makes at line from the Redhawks. Devareaux Manley poured in a contest high 20 points but was only 6-17 from the floor including a 4-13 effort on threes. Chris Ortiz netted 16 points with Derek Jackson tossing in another eleven points followed by a game high ten rebound performance from Marquiez Lawrence. An 8-13 mark at the line and little secondary offense nearly sent the Golden Flashes to loss number three in a row.

The Akron Zips have plenty of scoring potential and can play some defense as well but sometimes they do struggle to get both ends of the floor on the same page and the result is alot of close contests although they win more then they lose...thus far. The Zips have won four of five with the lone loss coming by a single point at Ohio. Akron comes off a 75-72 victory versus visiting Buffalo where both teams connected at around 47% from the field. The Bulls sank a few more baskets but the home team hit 10-24 from beyond the arc combined with a few more makes at the line to squeeze out the win. Jake Kretzer led five double digit scorers with 13 points on 4-5 shooting with Pat Forsythe scoring eleven. The trio of Kwan Cheatham Jr., Isaiah Johnson and Noah Robotham each tossing in ten points.
The Golden Flashes are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss. Kent State are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Zips are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Akron are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. With Kent State missing Jimmy Hall an possibly Kris Brewer I would say they are in trouble. I'll try the points but betting a team missing a chunk of production is not wise...
