The Hawaii Warriors return to the Stan Steriff Center looking to avoid the season sweep at the hands of the UC Riverside Highlanders.
The UC Riverside Highlanders have been loosely competitive at times but what they need is to go on a season ending hot streak to escapr the bottom half of the Big West and crack the top four. The Highlanders took a step towards that goal with a 71-66, overtime victory at Cal State Fullerton as they escaped a blown eight point first half lead. UCR burned the nets burned the nets at 52% but gave the ball away 22 times to give the 34% shooting Titans 15 more looks to keep them competitive. The Highlanders received 25 points and and six boards on 10-17 shooting from Jaylen Bland followed by an 18 point, 15 rebound effort from Taylor Johns. Steven Thornton and Austin Quick tossed in eight points apiece with Quick snagging seven rebounds.

The Hawaii Warriors are not going to win the Big West but they are pushing for a spot in the top four. I think the key to their success is whether they can speed up the pace and lean on a solid scoring offense and hopefully getting a few stops on defense. The Warriors lost a chance to move up the standings in a 75-74 loss at UC Santa Barbara in which they virtually the entire contest depite the Gauchos sinking 52% of their looks. UH stayed alive on 44% accuracy and and 18-10 advantage at the charity stripe. Garrett Nevels gave the offense 16 points on 5-13 from the field while Aaron Valdes tossed in 13 points on just 4-16. Mike Thomas added eleven points and and five pulls while Isaac Fleming and Stefan Jovanovic combined for another 17 points.
The Highlanders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big West. UC Riverside are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games. The Warriors are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games. Hawaii are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games. I like what I have seen from Hawaii lately but don't like the spread...
