The Idaho Vandals welcome the Portland State Vikings to Cowan Spectrum in a Big Sky match up Thursday.
The Portland State Vikings are within grasp of a top four spot in the Big Sky as they sit in 6th but the question is whether they have enough defense because there is plenty of scoring punch. The Vikings haven't made their life any easier with defeats in three of four capped off by a 64-60 loss at Sacramento State on Saturday. PSU dug themselves a nine point hole which proved to be too deep with 44% shooting and 17 turnovers falling short to the 48% accuracy of the Hornets. Braxton Turner gave the Portland State attack a contest best 18 points and five pulls followed by a 13 point, seven board effort from Tiegbe Bamba. DeShaun Wiggins and Zach Gengler rounded out the top contributors with ten and eight points respectively.

The Idaho Vandals key to success is scoring the basketball for 40 minutes and then hoping they have more point then the opposition at the final buzzer. The Vandals outscore foes 77-76 so if the offense has an off night their fate is generally sealed. That was what we saw in Saturday's 70-56 loss at Montana with a 24 point first half setting the tone. Idaho shot the ball well enough at 48% but 17 giveaways gave the 50% shooting Grizzlies nine more looks which they didn't need. The Vandals received 15 points on 4-5 marksmanship with Arkadiy Mkrtychyan and Mike Scott netting eleven points apiece with Scott posting five helpers. Perrion Callandret chipped in with seven points with the entire eight man rotation finding the scoring column but the offense needed more explosiveness.
The Vikings are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Portland State are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss. The Vandals are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Idaho are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games following a S.U. loss. If I were to bet this game I wouldn't trust either defense so I'd take the points...
