The Long Beach State 49ers head to Mott Gym looking for the season sweep of the Cal Poly Mustangs.
The Long Beach State 49ers were the hottest team in the Big West with six consecutive victories under their belt as well as a share of first but back to back defeats have dropped the team to third and in danger of falling out of the top four. The 49ers fell short in all areas in a 70-55 defeat at Santa Barbara on Thursday with the Gauchos breaking open a tight game on a 44-32 second half. LBSU connected at 39.6% with the home team hitting at 42.5% but the difference was at the stripe where Santa Barbara held a 21-10 advantage. McKay LaSalle was the best offensive option with 18 points on 7-8 from the floor with Mike Caffey tossing in eleven points. David Samuels followed with nine points and seven board but there was little help coming from the rest of the team.

Even though the Cal Poly Mustangs won Thursday's bout with Cal State Northridge 70-63 to end a three game skid they seemed to play half a game with a 14 point lead at the intermission reduced to four before righting the ship and just going through the motions late. The Mustangs defense allowed 40% shooting but still survived nine more looks with over 45% marksmanship of their own. The Mustangs sank seven more free throws but a 22-16 effort at the stripe enabled the Matadors to cut a 14 point lead in half over the last minute or so. Ridge Shipley led all scorers with 26 points and five yanks on 8-11 from the floor followed by a 15 point, seven board performance by Joel Awich. Reece Morgan tossed in 16 points with Maliik Love contributing eight points and eight rebounds.
