The Portland Pilots hope to continue their winning ways when the Loyola Marymount Lions visit the Chiles Center.
The Loyola Marymount Lions have been reduced to spoilers as their main goal is to avoind the conference basement and perhaps climb a notch or two in the standings. The Lions have been outscored 70-64 and these are tough numbers to survive the big offenses we see in the West Coast. Case in point was an 80-51 rroad loss at Gonzaga on Thursday where the Bulldogs jumped to a 44-14 lead after 20 minutes and went in to cruise control thereafter. LMU sank shots at 29% while the Zags hit at 49% and owned a +17 on the backboards. David Humphries was the Lions only double digit scorer with eleven points on 4-8 shooting with Evan Payne and Ayodeji Edbeyemi combining for 15 points. Ten players scored altogether but the scoreboard tells us what was needed.

The Portland Pilots were given a chance at breaking in to the top half of the West Coast but haven't lived up to the billing until lately. The Pilots are trying to right the ship and make a run at the top four and have taken a few steps in the right direction with three consecutive victories capped off by a 69-52 decision against visiting Pepperdine. A 39-24 second half broke the game open with the Waves offense stiffled on 36% shooting while connecting at a hefty 51% themselves. That equaled eight more baskets and the Pilots controle most every other area including a 35-23 mark on the glass. The duo of Kevin Bailey and Alec Wintering led the scoring with 15 points apiece with Wintering grabbing six boards and posting six assists. Thomas van der Mars added 12 points and six pulls while Volodymyr Gerun and Bryce Pressley netted ten points each.
The Lions are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. Loyola Marymount are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Pilots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. West Coast. Portland are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. The Lions aren't good but I'm still taking the points in what I think is a rout or barely a cover...
