TheRice Owls look to cool off the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers when they visit the Tutor Fieldhouse.
The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers were not supposed to be as good as we've seen them in prior years which they aren't but nobody can argue with their 9-3 conference record which is 4th in the CUSA. The Blazers have been on a roll with wins in seven of ten although one of those losses came last time out in a 67-64 defeat at North Texas. UAB never got going offensively with 43% accuracy and neither did Mean Green at 40% but they did sink five more free throws which was decisive. Hakeem Baxter and William Lee paced the UAB attack with 13 points each with Lee hauling in a contest high eleven rebounds.Robert Brown added eleven points and six boards followed by an eight point effort from Tosin Mehinti.

The Rice Owls are pretty much out of contention in the CUSA so the next best thing is to make a nuisance of yourself and try to takedown as many contending teams as possible. The Owls have done just that with back to back victories capped off by a 71-68 overtime win against Middle Tennessee State. Rice played the better defense with the Blue Raiders limited to 39% marksmanship and forcedin to 22 turnovers. The Owls hit at 40% and sank five more threes to win by the slim margin. Marcus Jackson was the go to scorer with a contest high 24 points and six boards on 7-15 fro the floor followed by Max Guercy with 16 points, five yanks and five steals on 5-7 shooting. Bishop Mency and Seth Gearhart rounded out the top contributors with tan points each with Gearhart posting five pulls.
The Blazers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall. UAB are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 vs. Conference USA and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Owls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win. Rice are 12-27 ATS in their last 39 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. The Blazers simply can not afford another letdown so this is a must win...
