McGuirk Arena and the Central Michigan Chippewas move a step closer to the MAC West title with a win over the Northern Illinois Huskies.
The Northern Illinois Huskies have generally struggled to put points on the scoreboard and that means the defensive end of the floor has to win games on their lonesome which hasn't happened often enough with a 4-8 league record. That trend continued in a 69-65 loss at Western Michigan on Saturday as a six point underdog. A 24 point second half squandered a four point lead and did the Huskies in despite outshooting the Broncos 45.5%-41% but WMU sank four more bombs and eight more free throws to scratch out the win. Jordan Threloff led three double digit scorers with 15 points and 15 rebounds on 4-7 shooting with Anthony Johnson tossing in 13 points. Aaric Armstead netted eleven points while Travon Baker chipped in with nine points.

The Central Michigan Chippewas have been the best team in the MAC West at 8-4 but there is too much season remaining to hand the title to the Chippewas. The Chips have been riding their powerhouse offense that ranks number nine in the country at 80 points with the defensive end of the floor asked to keep opponents from lighting up the scorboard. CMU picked up their victory in a row following a 75-74 win at Buffalo as they came from 13 down to squeeze the win out. CMU sank half their looks with the Bulls connecting at 44% in anotherwise close boxscore. Chris Fowler poured in a game high 22 points with five turnovers on 7-12 from the floor followed by a 15 effort from Josh Kozinski. Austin Stewart added ten points with five yanks with five players scoring between 5-6 points.
The Huskies are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Northern Illinois are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games. The Chippewas are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games following a ATS win. Central Michigan has done well in this match up but the line looks about right...
