Moody Coliseum and the Southern Methodist Mustangs host the Temple Owls with the season sweep on their mind.
The Temple Owls are looking for a return to the NCAA Tournament and a strong finish to the regular season could get the job done in the form of the AAC title. The Owls are certainly on track to reach that goal with a solid defense leading to seven consecutive victories capped off by a 66-53 win over visiting East Carolina. The Owls took the steam out of the visitors quickly with a 34-19 lead after 20 minutes and never let the Pirates get their feet under them. Nether team shot the ball well with Temple holding a slight 37%-35% edge but the Owls held a dominant 18-7 advantage at the stripe and a +20 on the backboards. Will Cummings did a little of everything with 17 points, seven boards and six assists with Jesse Morgan tossing in 14 points. Josh Brown, Mark Williams and Jaylen Bond combined for 25 points with Bond hauling in 16 rebounds.

The #21 Southern Methodist Mustangs missed out on the NCAA Tournament a season ago and are out to make sure that doesn't happen again. The Mustangs can both score and defend as well as any team and the result is first in th AAC with a 12-3 record although their position is far from safe. Both ends of the floor were at their best in a 73-55 victory versus visiting Connecticut Saturday with the Huskies held to 34% and forced in to 15 turnovers while SMU connected at 48% with the difference in shooting accounting for nine field goals. The trrio of Sterling Brown, Markus Kennedy and Yanick Moreira scored 13 points apiece with Moreira and Kennedy posting ten and eight rebounds. Cannen Cunningham chipped in with nine points with nine players scoring overall.
The Owls are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win. Temple are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 vs. American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 7-1-2 ATS in their last 10 home games. Southern Methodist are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. SMU should win this but the fan in me believes that somehow the Owls stay competitive...
