The Texas-Arlington Mavericks look to go on a season ending hot streak beginning with the visiting Appalachian State Mountaineers.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers are 6-8 in the Sun Belt and could move up the standings if they sweep the remaining slate but much help will be needed. The Mountaineers have been outscored 71-64 on the season and that has been the trend in the conference which is why the team is struggling to keep their heads above water. Both ends of the floor had issues once again in a 69-58 defeat at Louisiana-Monroe Saturday where a 12 point hole at the half did them in. ASU never found the range at 34.5% while the Warhawks burned the nets at 51% which added up to eight baskets. Jacob Lawson tossed in a game high 16 points on 5-7 shooting with Tommy Spagnolo adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Burgess scored nine points and posted five assists but production was hit or miss.

The Texas-Arlington Mavericks have forged a position in the top four of the Sun Belt but with plenty of games left to be played the question is can this team maintain their position. My answer would be yes if this offense scores as capable AND gets some stops from a defense that has given up points. A 97-91 loss at South Alabama was exactly the scenario the Mavericks wanted to avoid with 90+ points scored being a game that had to go in the win column. UTA trailed by 20 heading to the second half where a big comeback fell short. The Jaguars 51% accuracy and 12 more free throws was too much to handle for the 44% shooting Mavericks despite 17 more shots. Lonnie McClanahan led the team with 20 points with Erick Neal netting 16 points. Greg Gainey and Kevin Hervey added 13 and 12 points and combined for 19 rebounds.
The Mountaineers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. Appalachian State are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. The Mavericks are 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 games following a ATS loss and 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a S.U. loss while going 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. These teams have never met so nothing to go on although the Mountaineers are not good on the road so tread lightly...
