The red hot Iona Gaels hope to move closer to the MAAC crown with a win versus the Monmouth Hawks.
The Monmouth Hawks have been playing some of their best basketball of the season and it's coming at the right time with the team trying to secure a spot in the top four with the conference playoffs in sight. The defensive minded Hawks have won four in a row after a 63-58 win at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. The visitors controlled the Peacocks on less then 40% shooting and 17 turnovers to make their own 44.7% accuracy a winner with four more baskets. Deon Jones was the go to scorer with a game high 23 points on 7-12 from the floor with Justin Robinson next in line with eleven points. Max DiLeo added ten points and five pulls while Brice Kofane chipped in with ten points and snagged a team high seven rebounds.

I know their are still a handful of games left to be played but the Iona Gaels will be the regular season MAAC champions. Winners of nine straight the Gaels have won the close ones, the shootouts and by the occasional rout. The Red Foxes were victim number nine with the Gaels defense limiting them to under 34% accuracy which helped negate 16 giveaways and 16 more looks at the basket. Iona connected at nearly 45% with five more free throws being decisive. David Laury was a man among boys with a team high 21 points and game best 18 rebounds on 8-12 from the floor. Schadrac Casmir and AJ English each netted 19 points with English posting six boards while Kevin Amayo hauled in eleven boards to go along with his six points.
The Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Monmouth are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games. The Gaels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Iona are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 Sunday games. If Monmouth doesn't defend and make some shots they will get slaughtered. No real interest but perhaps the Hawks will play with desperation...
