The Canisius Golden Griffins hope to move up the standings with a win over the visiting Niagara Purple Eagles.
The Niagara Purple Eagles were a team that couldn't put together more then a half of solid basketball together and lo and behold they win consecutive games for the first time this season. The Purple Eagles knocked off shorthanded Rider 65-61 as a ten point underdog on Saturday. The Broncs held a slight 46%-43% shooting edge but the visitors hit 10-22 from beyond the arc and sank five more free throws. Emile Blackman had a field day with a contest high 30 points and five yanks on 10-16 from the floor while Karonn Davis and Matt Scott added eleven and ten points with Scott snaring seven boards. Leading rebounder Ramone Snowden posted seven boards to go along with four points.
With two games remaining in the regular season the Canisius Golden Griffins still hold out hope of cracking the top four in the MAAC if they win both games and get some help. The Golden Griffins have kept their hopes alive with three consecutive wins following a come fom behind 65-63 victory at Quinnipiac on Saturday. The Bobcats won the shooting battle 43%-39% but 15 forced turnoers and 15 offensive rebounds led to ten more looks at the basket which Canisius put to good use with a couple of more baskets. Josiah Heath paced a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points and 14 rebounds on 6-10 from the floor with Kassius Robertson netting 14. Jeremiah Williams and Zach Lewis combined for 19 points with Jamal Reynolds posting ten boards and six points.
