The #3 Virginia Cavaliers move another step closer to finishing atop the ACC with a win at the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
The Virginia Cavaliers might not be piling up the the double digit wins like we saw earlier in the season but they are still winning as their 25-1 record clearly states. The Cavaliers are thriving in the ultra tough ACC as they are getting the best shot from every opponent. The nation's top ranked defense was called upon against visiting Florida State and didn't disappoint in a 51-41 victory on Sunday. The Seminoles offense never got going on less then 33% shooting which made the Cav's 44% accuracy an easy winner with a 14-7 edge at the line being huge. Anthony Gill led three double digit scorers with 13 points and a contest high nine rebounds. Darion Atkins and Malcolm Brogdon added eleven and ten points with Marial Shayok chipping in with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be finishing in the bottom half of the ACC even if the manage to win the four games remaining on the schedule although the team could be in line for a lesser tournament invitation should that scenario become reality. The Demon Deacons score and allow 71 points and giving up that much on defense has been fatal in a conference loaded with offensive talent. We saw that in Saturday's 88-75 defeat at Notre Dame where Wake outshot the Irish 46%-40% but were dominated at the foul line 27-11 and 11-6 on threes. Devin Thomas carried the scoring load with a game high 26 points and eleven rebounds on 10-17 while Codi Miller-McIntyre and Darius Leonard netted ten points each. Konstantinos Mitoglou and Cornelius Hudson tossed in eight points apiece with eight players scoring.
The Cavaliers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Virginia are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss and 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Demon Deacons are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Wake Forest are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 home games. Virginia hasn't been covering the big spreads lately and that's the only reason to back Wake Forest and probably not a good one...
