The Green Bay Phoenix battle the Illinois (Chicago) Flames at UIC Pavilion on Thursday night.
The Green Bay Phoenix have enjoyed another strong season at 21-7 but they will have to win the conference playoffs which they didn't do last season and cost the team a shot at the Big Dance. The third place Phoenix have lost two of three after a 66-61 overtime decision versus visiting Cleveland State on Friday. The Vikings had a 45.5%-42% shooting advantage but a 7-14 performance at the stripe was costly in an overtime contest. Greg Mays gave the Phoenix 19 points and seven boards with Keifer Sykes adding 18 points and nine rebounds with both combining for 15-23 shooting. The entire seven man rotation found the scoring column but GB needed somebody else to step up.

It's been a long time since the Illinois (Chicago) Flames challenged in the Horizon and it's not going to happen this season with the team sitting next to last in the conference. As is usually the case with teams in any league that are in the bottom half of their respective conference, their are struggles scoring the basketball or defending or sometimes both which defines the Flames. UIC had plenty of issues at both ends of the floor in Sunday's 81-56 loss at Oakland where the Golden Grizzlies jumped to an 18 point first half lead and never looked back. Oakland sank shots at 49% including a 15-27 performance from long range wile the Flames countered at 39% which didn't work with their 5-23 mark on threes. Marc Brown tossed in a game high 21 points with Jason McClellan adding 12 points and eight boards but the team didn't have enough options.
The Phoenix are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 42-19 ATS in their last 61 games following a S.U. loss. Green Bay are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Horizon League. The Flames are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and 7-16 ATS in their last 23 home games while going 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The numbers say Green Bay should win by a bunch but my gut tells me the Phoenix will disappoint again...
