The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks go for the season sweep of the Appalachian State Mountaineers Saturday.


The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks have gone from an also ran to a legitimate challenger in the Sun Belt and have a chance to move up from second to unseat Georgia Southern. The Warhawks can not afford any more losses and have done their share to stay in the hunt with wins in seven of eight after a one sided 75-57 rout of South Alabama on the road. ULM went up eight at the half and never let up with the Jaguars held to less then 39% shooting while giving the ball away 14 times. The 46% shooting Warhawks took advantage of 12 more looks with nine more buckets which was decisive. Justin Roberson paced the attack with 18 points followed by Tylor Ongwae and Majok Deng adding 14 points apiece with eight and 13 rebounds. Nick Coppola and DeMondre Harvey netted nine points each with the entire seven man rotation scoring.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers were still in the hunt for a spot in the top four a month ago but have fallen on hard time since with defeats in seven of eight with six coming by double figures. Neither end of the floor has been on the same page in this stretch which was capped off by a 77-58 loss at first place Georgia Southern on Thursday. The Eagles took control early with a 16 point lead after 20 minutes and were never in danger with 48% accuracy and five more free throws doing plenty of damage with the 40% marksmanship of the Mountaineers not able to keep the pace. Frank Eaves was the only player to score in double digits with 15 points while Dustin Clarke scored eight. Jake Babic and Jason Lawson added seven points apiece but the offense needed more explosiveness.
