The UC Davis Aggies hope to take a step towards the Big West tile with a win at the Cal Poly Mustangs.
In my view the UCDavis Aggies are the best team in the Big West but I also know a meltdown in the last three games could knock them from their perch atop the conference. The Aggies had been in cruise control with seven victories in a row before stumbling at Santa Barbara 74-64 on Thursday night. The Gauchos rode a 44-30 run to break open a tie game behind 49% accuracy and 13 more looks thanks to 16 Aggies giveaways to pull away from the 46% shooting visitors. Corey Hawkins gave the offense 18 points with Josh Fox adding 16 points and five yanks. Neal Monson and Avery Johnson combined for 15 points with Monson snaring five boards but the offense didn't have much bite.

I have said all season that the Cal Poly Mustangs are an improved squad and that is true although that hasn't prevented them from falling to 7th in the conference. Back to back defeats have dropped the Mustangs in the standings and that means they will have to come from nowhere to win the Big West playoffs for the second straight year to go Dancing. CP is coming off a 63-56 loss to UC Irvine where the Anteaters burned the nets at over 58% while the Mustangs countered at 34% ad stayed within shouting distance because of a 12-3 advantage at the foul line. Ridge Shipley paced the attack with 20 points on 5-12 from the floor with Brian Bennett adding 17 points and a came high 12 rebounds but five others managed only 19 points.
The Aggies are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games overall. UC Davis are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 vs. Big West and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Mustangs are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. Big West. Cal Poly are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 Saturday games and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Since I believe UC Davis is the best in the league I'll take them and the points...
