The Temple Owls look to head in to the ÄAC playoffs with a full head of steam after three subpar efforts. The Owls had dropped back to back contests before upending visiting Houston 66-54 as a 14 point favorite on Thursday. The Cougars had upset on their mind with a five point lead after 20 minutes before Temple dominated the second half. The Owls defense held the Cougars to 40% shooting including 6-21 from long range while the home team connected at 45% which equaled five more baskets which was decisive. Quenton DeCosey tossed in 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds followed by Jaylen Bond with 15 points and nine boards. Will Cummings did everything with 14 points, five yanks and seven helpers while Jesse Morgan chipped in with ten points.
The East Carolina Pirates had plans of making an impact in the AAC although that will have to happen in the conference playoffs with the team staring at 7th. The Pirates finally picked up their first win on the road in a 71-66 decision at Central Florida. The Knight were up five at the half before ECU rode a late surge to the victory. East Carolina burned the nets at 57% with the Knights checking in with a not too shabby 52%. A balanced attack was key with four double digit scorers with Caleb White scoring 14 points and posting five yanks followed by Antonio Robinson with 13 points and eight helpers. BJ Tyson followed with another 13 points while Terry Whisnant netted eleven points and handed out five assists with Marshall Gullmette chipping in with eight points.
The Owls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Temple are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. American Athletic Conference. The Pirates are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. ECU are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. American Athletic Conference. I don’t like what I have seen from Temple lately so I’ll take the points and hope I’m wrong…
