The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers brace for their Big South quarterfinal bout with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are a top four squad in the Big South because they are solid at both ends of the floor with the ability to win with their scoring or defense. The Chanticleers are 12-6 in the conference and 21-9 overall as they outscore opponents 71-61 but did struggle in both areas in losses. CC is probably the most well known face in the conference but they seldom stepped up in competition with a win versus Auburn being the biggest.
The scoring options are numerous with four players averaging in double figures. Josh Cameron and Warren Gillis lead the offense with 13 points apiece on 42% and 44% marksmanship. Shivaughn Wiggins and Elijah Wilson contributed ten points each although Wilson is the poorest shooter on the roster at 36.7%. Badou Diagne is a key to the success in my view with over nine points on nearly 50% shooting while leading the team at 7.8 rebounds and is the few guys able to mix it up in the paint.
When the North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs have success it usually means they have outscored their defense. In other words this team needs to put up a lot of points and hope it’s more then the defense gives up. That plan worked in the first round of the Big South playoffs with an 80-70 victory against Liberty. This one was a bit ugly with 35 combined turnovers but the Bulldogs 49% shooting and eight more free throws overcame the Flames 43% and nine more looks.
Andrew Rowsey was the offensive star of the game with an explosive 34 point explosion on 9-15 from the floor including an impressive 7-10 performance from beyond the arc. David Robertson scored 14 points but was only 2-9 from the field while Sam Hughes netted 12 points on 5-9 marksmanship. Jaleel Roberts added eight points and a team high eight rebounds to round out the top contributors with the entire eight man rotation finding the scoring column.
The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a S.U. win. Asheville are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 vs. Big South and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS win. The Chanticleers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games. Coastal Carolina are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big South. These teams have similar and conflicting numbers versus the like competition so I’ll side with the points…
