The Radford Highlanders always seem to be one of the top squads in the Big South and this year has been no different with a 21-10 record and 12-6 conference mark. The Highlanders have outscored opponents 73-68 in an uptempo style and have generally played to these numbers in Big South action. RU has not played a ton of big names but have beaten a struggling Virginia Tech.
Radford is one of those teams that have little problem scoring the basketball while playing just enough defense to consistently win. This team will go as nine deep while Javonte Green is the top scorer and rebounder at 15 points and nearly nine boards on 54% shooting with RJ Price scoring 13 on 37.5% accuracy. Ya Ya Anderson and Cameron Jones are nine and eight point scores that could step in and provide additional offense but there isn’t a shortage of points on this team.
The Winthrop Eagles have enjoyed a decent 2014-15 campaign at 17-12 with a 12-6 record in the Big South. The Eagles have eerily similar numbers as their counterparts with 74 points scored and 67 points given up although they have been better then the numbers during the conference schedule defensively. The Eagles did defeat Clemson but stepping up in competition is not something they have done.
Winthrop shoots the ball at over 46% as a team with Keon Moore the star of the offense at almost 19 points and five pulls on 45.7% shooting with Andre Smith and Keon Johnson producing around eleven points apiece although they are both sub 40% marksman. Two guys that are crucial to this team’s success are Tevin Prescott and Xavier Cooks who score seven points each and combine for eleven rebounds with both well above 50% shooters .
The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big South and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU win of more than 20 points. Winthrop are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Highlanders are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games overall. Highlanders are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. We are asking Radford to beat Winthrop for the third time which is asking a lot but maybe the have then Eagles number…
