The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have a rather ordinary 16-15 overall record but they have terrorized the Horizon for over a month before finishing at 11-5. The Golden Grizzlies have scored and given up around 74 points and have simply outscored the Horizon in most cases. Oakland is one of a few teams that does schedule some tough games even though they didn’t beat anyone of note except Toledo.
As expected Oakland has no shortage of options at the offensive end with Kahlil Felder at the top of the list with his ability to do everything well. Felder averages over 17 points,4.5 boards and 7.7 assists. Corey Petros adds 14 points and a team high 8.4 rebounds on 60% shooting. While this is a dangerous duo the Golden Grizzlies have five players that average between 6-9 points to give the team plenty of secondary scoring.
The Illinois (Chicago) Flames knew they were not going to finish in the top half of the Horizon League but perhaps they can take advantage of their second chance in the conference postseason. So far, so good as the Flames won their round one bout with Wright State by a 60-57 count. UIC looked to be one and done with the Raiders taking a 19 point lead at the half before the Flames put together a 40-18 second half run to squeeze out the win with 39% shooting and ten more looks downing the 53% shooting Raiders.
Jay Harris gave the offense a contest high 23 points and five helpers on 7-14 from the floor in 40 minutes while Ahman Fells scored eleven points on 5-9 marksmanship with this duo the only players to sink shots at 50%. Markese McGuire was next in line with ten pointers and five helpers while Jason McClellan adding nine points and a team high seven rebounds.. The rest of the team contributed seven points with most of the production coming in the final 20 minutes.
The Flames are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Friday games. UIC are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Golden Grizzlies are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 home games.
Golden Grizzlies are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Oakland are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Oakland has beaten UIC twice and the third time is never easy…
