The Loyola (IL) Ramblers and Indiana State Sycamores will face off at the Scottrade Center in quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament this Friday night.
The Loyola (IL) Ramblers finished the season with a 18-12 record and earned the 6th seed in the MVC tournament with an 8-10 conference record. Loyola (IL) was projected to finish near the bottom of the MVC and used an impressive defensive to come away with a bid in the conference tournament especially as they were without their star player, Milton Doyle, for almost half the season. Loyola (IL) is ranked 127th in the RPI Standings and has played the 152nd ranked SOS. Loyola (IL) had a couple of big victories on the season as they were able to defeat Boise State (48-45) and Evansville (71-70).

Leading the way for Loyola (IL) was Christian Thomas (11.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and Milton Doyle (11.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.2 spg).
The Indiana State Sycamores finished the season with a 15-15 record and earned the 3rd seed in the MVC tournament with an 11-7 conference record. Indiana State was the main contender against Wichita State last year and although they lost three starters from a team that won 23 games, they still were projected to finish in the middle of the conference this season. Indiana State is ranked 178th in the RPI Standings and has played the 136th ranked SOS. Indiana State played some good competition in their non-conference schedule (Butler, Illinois, Memphis, Iona) and their biggest wins of the season came against Illinois State and Evansville.
On the season, Indiana State averaged 66.9 ppg (ranked 181st) on 42.9% shooting (ranked 202nd). The Sycamores averaged 7.3 three-pointers per game (ranked 76th) on 36.2% three-point shooting (ranked 93rd). Indiana State has allowed their opponent to shoot 37.5% from beyond the arc (ranked 309th). Leading the way for Indiana State was Devonte Brown (12.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.2 apg) and Brenton Scott (11.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg).
Indiana State was able to beat Loyola (IL) in both match-ups this season, however, Loyola (IL) didn’t have Milton Doyle in either of those match-ups. Loyola (IL) relies on their defensive to win ball games and Indiana State had the most success out of anyone in the MVC scoring on the Ramblers defense. Loyola (IL) likes to slow the game down and take quality shots on offensive, and although they have had little success against Indiana State this year, I think having Milton Doyle back in the line-up in this one will make the difference and Loyola (IL) will upset Indiana State. Take Loyola (IL) and the points.
