The West Coast playoffs postseason begins with a first round match up between the Santa Clara Broncos and the Loyola Marymount Lions.
The Loyola Marymount Lions were on the outside looking in at the rest of the West Coast from day one as they struggled to score and defend which is bad news with the huge offenses in this conference. The Lions have been outscored 70-63 which explains their 8-22 record and 4-14 mark in league play. The Lions are in a big slump at the wrong time as they head in to the playoffs riding a six game side.

The offense had some options with Evan Payne a legitimate scorer with almost 18 points on 44% but he might not be available with a bad ankle. Without Payne the top option on offense Marin Molnar produces ten points and five rebounds with Ayodeji Egbeyemi adding 9.5 points. Godwin Okonji and David Humphries combine for over 14 points and ten boards but without Payne the question is where do the points come from.
The Santa Clara Broncos also struggle to score and defend so like their counterparts it’s been an uphill battle to compete in an extremely top heavy conference. The Broncos have been outscored 69-62 but have a surprisingly good record for what the numbers say at 13-17 overall and 7-11 in the conference although they have dropped seven of nine to end the season with extreme difficulty in reaching the mid 60’s.
The offense is really a two man band with whoever else can step up. Jared Brownridge and Brandon Clarke are the only proven scorers at better then 15 points apiece with a combined 6.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists. Denzel Johnson and Matt Hubbard add close to nine and seven points respectively. In order to compete in the postseason the defense might have to take a leadership role.
The Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Loyola Marymount are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game and 9-23 ATS in their last 32 games following a ATS loss. The Broncos are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games.
Broncos are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win. No line out because Payne is questionable…
