It’s somewhat fitting that the Belmont Bruins are back in the Ohio Valley title game after fending off the rest of the East Division in what wasn’t their best year. However when the smoke clears we have a team accustomed to competing for championships refusing to go away. Eastern Kentucky had the Bruins on the ropes with a seven point lead at the break but couldn’t get the job done with Belmont staying competitive with 12 more looks and 34.5% shooting squeezing by the 44% shooting Colonels. Taylor Barnette led three double digit scorers with 14 points on 5-10 from the floor with Craig Bradshaw tossing in 12 points. Reece Chamberlain added ten points, seven boards and eight assists while Amanzee Egekeze posted eight rebounds.
The Murray State Racers haven’t lost in forever but certainly looked like forever was about to end when Morehead State rallied from an eleven point halftime deficit to take a late lead. But almost on cue the Racers found a way to keep ‘forever’ intact. The Racers held a slight 46.8%-44% shooting edge which equaled three more baskets but the Eagles connected on four more bombs to keep the scoreboard close until the final buzzer. Cameron Payne was the Racers go to scorer with 25 points on 9-2o shooting followed by a 23 point, ten board effort from Jarvis Williams. TJ Sapp was next in line with 17 points with Jeffery Moss netting ten while Jonathan Fairell hauled in a contest high 13 rebounds to go with five points.
The Bruins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. Belmont are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Ohio Valley and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Racers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games. Murray State are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The spread makes me shudder a bit but I’m going with the best team here…
