The San Francisco Dons are not the fearsome offense we have grown accustomed to seeing the past several years which is why this was a bit of a down year. The Dons still had enough in the tank to down Pacific 62-58 in the opening round of the WCC postseason even though this was much more of a defensive struggle then expected. The Tigers were limited to just 30% marksmanship but stayed alive thanks to 14 more looks at the basket while the Dons countered with 40% accuracy and a 19-13 advantage at the stripe to win it. Kruize Pinkins land Tim Derksen led four double scorers with 14 points apiece with Pinkins grabbing seven boards. Devin Watson added 13 points and six helpers while Mark Tollefsen chipped in with another ten points.
The season has been somewhat typical for the Gonzaga Bulldogs with another West Coast Championship and national ranking with their sights set on the national title. The Bulldogs went 29-2 on the year and 17-1 in conference play with the lone league loss coming at the hands of Brigham Young on the final day of the regular season. The Zags can do it all as they outscore the opposition 79-60 so they can win shootouts or defensive struggles. The Bulldogs have stepped out of conference successfully with a three point loss to Arizona the only other blemish on their record. The roster is loaded with talent with Kyle Wiltjer leading the offense at 16.5 points an nearly six boards on 53% shooting with Przemek Karnowski and Byron Wesley supplying over eleven points and a combined eleven rebounds on 52.5% an 60.5%marksmanship.Kevin Pangos averages over eleven points on 46% shooting so the weapons are numerous.
The Dons are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. San Francisco are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games. The Bulldogs are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a S.U. loss and 24-9-2 ATS in their last 35 games following a ATS loss. Gonzaga are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. No need to overthink this as Gonzaga wins by plenty and either covers or pulls back late and doesn’t…
